AFTERMATHS OF HURRICANE KATRINA
With KATRINA on our doorstep we had to leave Gulfport by car. Escaping by boat was not an option.
We returned to a more or less eradicated Gulfport. In the harbour, some 240 boats had been demolished. M/S RAMONA had been thrown ashore - but with minor blemishes she was one of the three surviving vessels. Four windows broken, a couple of antennas and rails bent. She is a tough lady, built to survive the winter in the Baltic Sea, where ice conditions could be rather unfriendly.
However, with hurricane RITA approaching, we quickly patched the M/S RAMONA windows and had her lifted back to sea. Hull, engine and electronic systems had passed the hurricane test - but to avoid further trials we were soon heading east towards Panama City, Florida.
Back in business at the SUN HARBOR MARINA of Panama City in St. Andrew's Bay, Slip 36.
